A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.
Proverbs 14:30

No Comparison

Movies, TV shows, and advertisements all encourage us to compare ourselves to the actors, celebrities, and models we see. Needless to say, without stylists, designer clothes, and Photoshop, we come up short. We feel dissatisfied with our lives and wonder what’s missing. Inevitably, we make a new purchase or at least face the temptation to buy something that will help us feel better about ourselves.

Similarly, whenever we surf Facebook or personal pages, we’re tempted to compare. Everyone looks so happy and successful in their pictures as they travel to exotic places, meet other successful people, and generally enjoy an amazing life.

Their families appear happy and healthy, eager to be together and enjoy one another’s company.

Our lives can’t compare, nor should they. These are fantasies—either projected by people trying to make money off our envy and insecurities or by our own imagination.
God provides everything you need. Today, don’t lose sight of what you have by focusing on what you don’t.

Pray: “Lord, I don’t want to compare myself to other people. I want to be grateful for what I have, knowing that it’s more than enough.”
Act: Make a list of five people whom you envy in some way. Tear up the list and ask God to replace the envy in your heart with gratitude and peace.
